Coding Teacher

The TEAK Fellowship is a ten-year enrichment program that offers New York City students from under-resourced communities intensive after-school and summer academic classes, transformational cultural experiences, secondary school, and college guidance, a vibrant internship program, and robust support system. TEAK students earn admission/financial aid at our Nation’s most prestigious academic institutions and graduate from them determined to make an impact on communities in need of their contributions and leadership.  

 


 

TEAK is seeking an experienced middle or high school level teacher to teach Introduction to Coding to TEAK Fellows in 7th grade. Instructors will work collaboratively as part of a 3-person coding team responsible for providing the curriculum structure. Students will learn JavaScript using a JavaScript library called p5.js., cover basic and complex shapes, variables, conditionals, images and audio, functions, and loops.

 

Instructors will teach approximately 15 students once a week on Thursdays during the 11-week Winter Semester from January 17 – April 6, 2023. Classes will take place 4:45pm – 6:15pm at St. Ann’s School in Brooklyn.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching 1 section of Coding to 7th grade at St. Ann’s School School from January through April 2023.
  • Providing classroom supervision and 70 minutes of instruction between 4:45pm-6:15pm each Thursday.
  • Teaching on each of the following dates: 1/19, 1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 2/16, 3/2, 3/9, 3/16, 3/23, 3/30, 4/6 (Bold indicates remote classes).
  • Attending a 30 minute weekly instructor meeting.
  • Staffing 2 one-hour extra help sessions during the Winter Semester.
  • Attending pre-semester instructor meeting on January 10 at 5pm.
  • Using Google Classroom and assigning up to 1 hour of homework weekly. Collecting and grade Fellow homework weekly.
  • Providing midterm and final grades, including writing student comments.

 

 

Compensation

TEAK offers generous compensation to its instructors, ranging from $3,000-$4,000 for this 11-week position.
