In honor of Black History Month, we are highlighting some of our own students’ voices and sharing visual poems that they created over the summer at Summer Institute. During Summer Institute, Fellows work with Malik Work, Humanities and Arts Instructor for Middle School Academy, to create visual projects about their lives and how they see the world. From Malik:
“These videos were taken from two different assignments. I basically had students creating artwork throughout the summer about their lives, how they see the world, and how they see themselves- in the past, present and future. I urged them to use that artwork to create a meaningful audiovisual narrative. We used prose-writing, poetry, voiceover, photography, music, dance, drawing, acting, and more. We used all these in service of our own compelling narratives.”
