The TEAK Fellowship is a ten-year enrichment program that offers New York City students from under-resourced communities intensive after-school and summer academic classes, transformational cultural experiences, secondary school, and college guidance, a vibrant internship program, and robust support system. TEAK students earn admission/financial aid at our Nation’s most prestigious academic institutions and graduate from them determined to make an impact on communities in need of their contributions and leadership.  

 


 

TEAK is seeking a Director of Admissions who will lead the recruitment and selection of 45 exceptional New York City students from under-resourced communities. The Director of Admissions will lead a three-person team and report to the Executive Director.

Candidates should have a passion for educational equity, a love of working with exceptional young people, and a desire to join a like-minded, committed, and diverse team of educators.

 

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment 

● Design and implement recruitment strategy for the Admissions team. Past outreach has included
mailing, school visits, and information sessions, with new ideas welcome.
● Build relationships with public, charter, and parochial middle schools and CBO partners.
● Update recruitment resources and materials (i.e., flyers, website pages, promotional materials) in
partnership with TEAK’s Communications office.
● Design TEAK application materials and make updates annually.
● Maintain accurate records for all constituents, including school and CBO partners, applicants,
teachers/guidance counselors, and families.

Applicant Selection

● Implement applicant evaluation process from inquiry through final notification and enrollment.
● Oversee admissions application coordination, such as: obtaining all required materials from
applicants and supplemental materials from schools, teachers, and families; exam administration;
and student and family interviews.
● Oversee the day-to-day admission operations and events for selection, including training full- and
part-time staff; file distribution; evaluation calibration; selection committees, and final decisions,
while maintaining the big picture
● Use systems-standardized processes, evaluation rubrics, and data to drive decision-making.

Administrative

● Manage and train junior staff and coordinate their efforts in recruitment and evaluation.
● Work collaboratively with program staff to ensure students' successful transition from applicant
to TEAK Fellow.
● Manage Admissions budget.
● Provide periodic updates to senior leadership and the Board of Trustees.

Programming

● Participate in Summer Institute in an administrative or teaching capacity.

● Support student events in planning and/or advisory role as needed.
● Participate in or lead special projects and committees.

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in education, non-profit management, or a related
field preferred.
● 3+ years of professional experience in recruitment and admissions highly desired, or related
experience in education and/or non-profit work.
● Commitment to TEAK’s mission of educational access and success for underrepresented students
● Fluency with information management systems (Salesforce is a plus) and proficiency in
managing data.
● Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
● Availability to work a Tuesday – Saturday schedule two weeks a month with some evening
commitments from September through April is required.
● Strong administrative and organizational skills.
● Exceptional public speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills.
● Prior management experience is desired.
● Team player with the ability to be flexible in a fast-moving environment.
