
Assistant Director of Student Growth
The TEAK Fellowship is a ten-year enrichment program that offers New York City students from under-resourced communities intensive after school and summer academic classes, transformational cultural experiences, secondary school, and college guidance, a vibrant internship program, and a robust support system. TEAK students earn admission/financial aid at our Nation’s most prestigious academic institutions and graduate from them determined to make an impact on communities in need of their contributions and leadership.
TEAK is seeking an Assistant Director of Student Growth who will join the High School Program team to provide students with academic and social-emotional support and college guidance under the coaching of the Senior Director of College Guidance and High School Programs.
The Assistant Director of Student Growth will collaborate closely with TEAK’s talented students and supportive families, and will play a critical role in our dynamic High School Programs department. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of TEAK’s growth and success as we approach our 25th year of serving some of the best and brightest NYC students.
Key Responsibilities
Student Growth
- Serve as a TEAK Dean, closely monitoring and supporting approximately 30 10th-12th grade students attending day and boarding high schools to ensure academic success and personal growth following TEAK’s Fellow Success and Support model.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all constituents related to the student, including families, teachers, advisors, and external program partners.
- Visit students at their high schools at least once per year and check in with them regularly.
- Participate and co-facilitate TEAKs High School Programs/College Guidance courses, which may include First Year Seminar, College Guidance Kickoff Week and Summer Boot Camp, and College Transition Workshops.
- Participate in monthly Student Support Huddles and additional interdepartmental meetings as required.
- Serve as the primary TEAK college counselor for a group of 12th grade students and families, assisting students with the creation of college lists, college essays and supplements, financial aid applications, and college trip planning.
Program Management and Administration
- Assist with the planning and implementation of all aspects of High School Programs and College Guidance, including the TEAK Family Association, Fellows’ Forums, 10th grade Summer of Service, financial aid application assistance, college application support, and other programs as needed.
- Assist with High School & College Guidance program management, including facilitating program calendar compiling, program mailings, communication with Fellows, families, and external partners.
- Maintain up-to-date Fellow records in Salesforce.
- Participate in TEAK’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) initiatives and other committees as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 3+ years of professional experience in education, youth counseling and/or development, and/or teaching
- College Guidance experience preferred
- Commitment to educational access and equity for underrepresented populations
- Demonstrated interest and dedication to TEAK’s Mission, Core Values, and DEIB statement
- Strong oral presentation, interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Excellent writing skills, highly organized, with a strong project management background
- Proficiency with GSuite (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides)
- Familiarity/proficiency with Salesforce a plus
- Team player and the ability to be flexible in a collaborative environment
- Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, or Bengali preferred
